DAHP facilitates workshops on:
HIV awareness education and prevention among secondary school students and adults
Awareness education among secondary school students presently in the South-West of Nigeria
Emphasis on abstinence or 'saved sex' till marriage , faithfulness to one's partner in marriage, use of condom for youths that are not faith-driven and infected partners. This is done through talks, short dramas, questions and answer sessions and the newly written book, 'Out of the Mouths of Children' and what adults (everyone should know about HIV/AIDS
Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing (VCCT)
Emphasis is placed on understanding, knowledge-based counseling, confidentiality between patients and counselee pre and post-testing. VCCT workshops are conducted highlighting emphasis was on counseling AIDS patients and the Biblical Approach to human sexuality.
Dialogue with Community Leaders
Meetings are held with the king, chiefs and religious leaders focusing on HIV/AIDS. The discussions have been exciting and the chiefs asked great questions about the infection, prevention, testing etc.
Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Identification of the critical needs of the child is emphasized. Such needs include palliative treatment and care for sero-negative children and both palliative and anti-retroviral treatment for the HIV-positive child. Emphasis is placed on essential needs and provision for such as nutrition, clothing, school supplies, shelter, and modified extended family support.
Prevention of mother-to-child-transmission (PMTCT)
Education about PMTCT and several means other are used to mitigate it. Such means include: education about good nutrition during pregnancy, treatment of mother during the last trimester, Caesarean section, Non-breast feeding and treatment of the newborn within 24 hours of birth.
